Philippe Leonard, filmaker sperimentale vive e lavora a Montreal. La sua pratica artistica si concentra sulle immagini fisse e in movimento utilizzando cinema, fotografia, performance e installazioni. Impegnato sul piano teorico ed estetico, indaga sulla temporalità ed i suoi rapporti con i supporti materiali che la manifestano nelle forme di rappresentazione cinematica. La sua particolare sensibilità lo porta ad esplorare la dimensione spettrale degli spazi fisici, adottando una forma di cinema documentario espanso. La sua opera è distribuita da Light Cone e CFMDC, ed è stato presentato in contesti internazionali di primaria importanza: alla 16° WRO media Biennale (Polonia), Rotterdam International Film Festival (Olanda), Anthology Film Archives (New York), Galerie Michel Journiac (Parigi), Festival du nouveau cinéma (Montreal), EXiS Experimental Film and Video Festival (Seoul), European Media Arts Festival (Germania),Museo Nitsch (Napoli), Struts Gallery (New Brunswick). Dopo la laurea in Film Production conseguita alla Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema, ed il Master in Fine Arts alla Concordia University con il supporto della Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council del Canada, ottiene nel 2013 la prestigiosa residenza al MIT-Media Lab studiando con Harun Farocki. E' membro del Double Negativedi di Montreal e del Millennium Film Workshop di New York City.

Philippe Leonard, canadian experimental film-maker lives and works in Montreal. His artistic practice focuses on still and moving images, through film, photography, performance and installations. His theoretical and aesthetic reflections focus on the complex temporality of still and moving images, the spectral dimension of physical spaces, and expanded documentary practices. Distributed by Light Cone and CFMDC, his work has been showcased in notable international contexts, such as the 16th WRO Media Biennale (Poland), Rotterdam International Film Festival (Netherlands), Anthology Film Archive (New York), Galerie Michel Journiac (Paris), Cineteca di Bologna (Italy), Festival du nouveau cinéma (Montreal), EXiS Experimental Film and Video Festival (Seoul), European Media Arts Festival (Germany), O 'Gallery (Milan), Museo Nitsch (Naples), Struts Gallery (New Brunswick), Annecy International Animated Film Festival (France), Galerie Les Territoires (Montréal), etc. As a cinematographer, he is involved in artistic, documentary and commercial audiovisual projects, using a broad range of cameras and formats: Super 8, 16mm, 35mm, HD, etc. Philippe Leonard emphasizes a mastery of both analog and digital techniques to create moving images. He completed a Bachelor's degree in Film Production from the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema and a Master of Fine Arts at Concordia University with the support of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. In 2013, he was awarded a residency at the MIT Media Lab to study under the mentorship of the late Harun Farocki. He is a member of the Montreal collective of experimental cinema Double Negative and Millenium Film Workshop in New York City.
