Lieven Martens (Moana, anche noto come Dolphins Into The Future), musicista belga, esplora il suono analogico e sperimenta nuovi approcci al field recording. Crea una musica sperimentale che si riferisce all'etnomusicologia e alla sound art, al collage e alla moderna composizione classica. Ne nasce un dialetto contemporaneo, guidato dalla narrazione. Se negli anni Duemila, durante il boom del noise, miscelava synth, new age e field recordings tropicali, ora Martens è ancora più poetico e vede le sue produzioni sonore come diari e autoritratti. Negli ultimi anni si è esibito in tutto il mondo, da Città del Messico a Tokyo, Lisbona, Lecce, Honolulu e Bruxelles. Nel 2013 ha pubblicato il primo LP col suo nome di nascita nel 2013, Music From The Guardhouse con la Kraak, etichetta discografica belga. Nel 2015 ha autoprodotto una compilation di outtakes e schizzi, prodotti in vari formati, Songs Of Gold, Incandescente. E nel 2017 l'ultimo LP Idylls è uscito sull'americana Pacific City Sound Visions e ristampato per la sua Edições CN. Accanto a queste attività, Martens gestisce una propria label e stamperia su cui pubblica registrazioni e libri in edizioni limitate. Scrive inoltre musica commissionata per ensemble, per la radio nazionale, per spot e per mostre d'arte. Recentemente ha collaborato con artisti come Francesco Cavaliere, Roman Hiele, Floris Vanhoof, Spencer Clark e Mia Prce (aka Miaux). Nel 2016 ha avuto il sostegno del Dipartimento della Cultura fiamminga.
Lieven Martens (Moana, formerly Dolphins Into The Future) is a belgian soundmaker seeking for a thorough aestheticism of the impression. Using analogue and digital recording techniques, he creates an experimental form of music that refers to ethnomusicology and to sound art, collage and modern classical composition. Resulting in a very contemporary dialect, driven by a narrative. Over the past few years he has been performing all over the globe. From Mexico City, to Tokyo, Lisbon, Lecce, Honolulu, and Brussels. Kraak, a record label based in Ghent, Belgium, released his first LP in 2013, Music From The Guardhouse. In 2015 he self-published a compilation of outtakes and sketches, produced on various formats, Songs Of Gold, Incandescent. And in 2017, his newest LP Idylls came out on Pacific City Sound Visions (USA) and his own Edições CN. These three albums got critical acclaim. Next to these activities, Martens runs a private press on which he releases records and books in limited editions; and he has been writing commissioned music for ensemble, for the national radio, for a commercial and for art exhibitions. He recently has been collaborating with fellow artists like Francesco Cavaliere, Roman Hiele (as Hiele Martens), Floris Vanhoof, Spencer Clark and Mia Prce (aka Miaux). In 2016 he received a grant from the Flemish Department of Culture.
