Bip_Hop

Bip_Hop, small label from Marseilles, has carved out for itself a recognised reputation in the world of contemporary electronic music. The label started from a geographic context which is certainly not an easy one, being French and therefore very much weighed down by continual references to the  three Pierre’s, i.e. Schaeffer, Henry e Boulez, as a commentator sarcastically suggested. These composers constitute a very precise barrier in the evolving frontier of French experimental music. Bip_Hop is trying alternative paths, daringly freeing itself from  the established patterns, by using a cross-cultural approach somewhat averse to the restrictions of borders and genres. Drifting beats, no-fi and a great passion for bizarre sounds, characterize the tastes of Bip_Hop’s catalogue, presented here almost radio-phonically by Philippe Petit, whose presence has been deemed necessary, given the high density of composers present in the festival programme, who in some way, have had something to do with Bip_Hop, i.e.: Tonne, Scanner, Wang inc. and Philippe Petit himself.
